Veteran Transportation

Dane County Department of Human Services is proud to provide group and individual transportation services to veterans. Most programs are provided to all veterans and their spouses regardless of age, disability, and discharge status. The vehicle drivers are also veterans.

Vets Helping Vets

The Vets Helping Vets program provides scheduled individual rides to needed appointments and services for Veterans. The service is door-through-door and drivers will assist passengers in getting to the correct location within the clinic or hospital. Rides are provided in the volunteers' own cars and are usually not accessible. Actual ride scheduling is arranged between the ride scheduler, the driver and the rider. The service area is all of Dane County. Rides are dependent on driver availability. The drivers are veterans.

General Eligibility:

The Vets Helping Vets transportation program is available to Veterans with any discharge and or disability status and their families. Individuals who receive MA rides to medical appointments through Common Carrier Medical Assistance Transportation are not eligible. Individuals enrolled in Long-Term Care through Family Care, Family Care Partnership, and IRIS are not eligible.

Cost:

Donations are accepted but no one is denied service due to inability to pay.

DryHootch Veteran Transportation

DryHootch provides transportation to needed appointments and services for Veterans. The group ride service schedules stops at the Veterans Service Office, VA Hospital, food pantries, and other destinations. The group ride service is door-to-door. Individual rides are provided as needed. The individualized ride service is door-through-door, and passengers are assisted with curbs and up to three steps. Drivers will assist passengers in getting to the correct location within the clinic or hospital. Vehicles are accessible. The service area is all of Dane County. The drivers are also veterans.

General Eligibility:

The DryHootch transportation program is available to any Veteran with any discharge and or disability status.

No cost.

Ride with Pride

The Ride with Pride program provides a Metro Transit commute card (annual bus pass) to Veterans free of charge. The service is curb-to-curb. Metro mainline buses are accessible, but this is not a paratransit pass. The service area is the Metro Transit boundaries.

General Eligibility:

The Ride with Pride Metro commute card is available to Veterans with VA disability status or who have a needs-based VA pension.
